A new facade wraps around two adjacent art galleries, which occupy a former metal workshop in a rapidly-growing art district to the east of Jaffa, southern Tel Aviv.
Offset from the light-industrial building behind, the facade stands as a solid skin; subtly misaligning, overlapping and climbing upwards as the metalwork cuts around two large framed openings which act as billboards. These offer a detached glimpse into the galleries, lit as artwork from above.
The industrial character of the area is reflected in the darkly oiled Cor-Ten steel, which begins life as an almost monochromatic surface. Time brings patina to the metal, eventually settling on a dark, rich ochre. The layered poster paper in the billboard will build up thickness from exhibit to exhibit - a catalogue of work by itself.
Gordon Gallery has also been recently collaborating with the Studio on exhibitions, such as All and Nothing (2018) shown below.
