Ron Arad Architects were commissioned by Parkview International to develop a Masterplan for their luxury Hotel ‘Le Beauvallon’ in the Cote D’Azur, France, and in addition to redesign the Hotel entry level and a new Pool Suite resort within the 5 hectare development.
The hotel resort exists as a series of disconnected ‘micro sites’ – the Masterplan binds these together into one coherent hotel-scape, creating visual and physical connections between each zone, clarifying circulation, and creating a site wide sustainable service strategy.
The proposal unites the main Hotel, the spa suites, pool suites and beach club with a continuous sculptural element that transforms itself from entry portal into structural wall for the northern terrace, forming a screen between service routes and guest circulation. This then descends as ramp and bridge to the lower site level, curving around the hotel site to form the circulation route towards the beach club.
The design recreates the sequence of entry to the site and into the hotel, to create a dramatic sense of arrival that enhances the grandeur of this ‘Belle Époque’ hotel. An extension to the rear of the hotel forms the hub of the site, with a new pavilion and terrace at ground floor opening up the back of the hotel and linking it physically to the proposed Spa Suites to the north. From here the sweeping corten wall forms a route down to the pool suites, designed as a series of water villas ‘floating’ around a natural lagoon. The natural lagoon can be swam in and is kept crystal clear and chemical free through biological filtration. The sunken living rooms extend into the pool and water floods between villas creating an experience is of being surrounded with and living on water.
